BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU officials fired Tiger Band Director Roy King after placing him on administrative leave on April 6. The firing was the result of a nearly four-month long internal investigation into King.Read the full statement from LSU spokesperson Ernie Ballard regarding King's firing below:"It's just a shame that's how LSU rewards loyalty," said Craft.LSU Director of Bands Damon Talley met with Tiger Band members Tuesday afternoon to announce that the associate director of bands Dr. Dennis Llinas will take over the athletic bands as interim director. Students declined to talk after the meeting, although social media has been flooded with reaction.According to Craft, the secretary who handled the money does not work under King and already reported the incident to the proper officials at LSU.King's attorney Jill Craft said the accusations included nepotism because King's daughter had interned with the School of Music. Craft said another concern was that King allowed scholarships to be awarded to members of the Golden Girls and the color guard. The award presentation was made during the All-State band performances, also held at the Crown Plaza Executive Center during the conference.Outside of his work at LSU, King maintains an active schedule having appeared as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the U.S. He has won a number of Emmys, among other awards.

King, director of athletic bands at LSU and a faculty member in the LSU School of Music, was recently named Band Director of the Year by the Epsilon Chapter of the Phi Beta Mu international bandmasters fraternity. King worked with the marching band for 18 years and served as assistant director of bands for several years before permanently taking over as band director in fall 2010. " She pointed out several other examples of multiple family members working together at LSU and said Gold Girl scholarships have been awarded for decades.
