Growing demand for multicultural Greek organizations in the late 20th century quickly ushered in an era that would transform the lives of many students across the country. The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing body for culturally based fraternities and sororities at Arizona State University. The University hosts 20 fraternities and sororities that fall under the three umbrella councils of the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), Panhellenic Association (PHA). The Multicultural Greek Council is also home for organizations that represent their tradition and history through showcased performances such as stepping, strolling, and saluting. The Multicultural Greek Council was founded on November 15, 1999 at the University of Florida by four Greek Organizations:Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. The MGC through their programming efforts, encourage scholastic achievement among its member organizations and individuals, provide a forum for discussion and to develop action strategies regarding issues relevant to the MGC community, coordinate semester activities and service related events to promote cooperation and harmony among member organizations, and strive to promote cultural awareness.
